In addition to the @hpscotslibrary Twitter account, the library has two more social media channels to explore on Instagram and Pinterest. These new accounts are run by student library aids with the goal of providing content that is of interest to our audience. We also hope to give our library aids a meaningful work experience where they are developing skills in using social media for a professional purpose.
The goal of the library Instagram presence is simply to reveal interesting details about the library and make the library seem more useful and approachable. Features may include contests, fun facts about the library and its staff, and of course, books.
Pinterest is a completely different platform that lends itself to more variety of interests. One can follow all or some of the “boards” which include: School Skills, Young Adult books, Writing help and College Prep. The main objective with Pinterest is to encourage students to pursue their own passions through reading and writing, while enhancing their desirability for selective colleges.
Social media is a two-way street and student participation is vital to the success of this initiative. Please follow and participate in the media of your choice!
